HOUSTON – A Houston man shot a suspected burglar who had broken into his home and was found sitting in his pregnant wife’s car late Friday night, police reported.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. at a residence near Kelving and Morningside in University Place.

The homeowner and his wife were inside when they heard noises that triggered their home security alarm.

Armed for protection, the 50-year-old homeowner went to investigate and discovered the garage door open. Inside, an unknown man was sitting in his wife’s car.

As the homeowner attempted to confront him, the suspect stepped out of the vehicle.

“The homeowner ordered him to stop. They were in close proximity, and due to poor lighting, the homeowner could not see the suspect’s hands.

When the suspect made sudden movements, the homeowner fired two shots, hitting him in the arm and leg,” said Lt. Willkens of the Houston Police Department.

Emergency responders took the injured suspect to the hospital, where he is expected to recover. Authorities confirmed that he will face burglary charges.

Officials stated that the homeowner acted in self-defense and is not facing any charges at this time.
