HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A violent altercation between two groups led to gunfire near Katy on Sunday, leaving two people hospitalized.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that the shooting occurred at a McDonald’s on Fry Road, near W. Little York.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated that both groups, likely consisting of teenagers, got into a dispute that escalated into gunfire.

According to Lt. Dennis Wolfford, around 5:25 p.m., a group of seven to eight young men and women entered the restaurant, seemingly to order food.

Shortly after, another group of two to three men arrived, leading to a physical confrontation.

The individuals involved were estimated to be between 16 and 20 years old.

Gunshots were fired both inside and outside the McDonald’s. A 61-year-old man inside was struck multiple times.

A 26-year-old man was shot while trying to flee and later ran to a nearby Waffle House.

The suspects then escaped in two vehicles, a maroon SUV and a white sedan.

Emergency responders transported the older victim via helicopter for surgery, and he remains in critical condition.

The younger victim was taken by ambulance and is in serious condition but expected to survive.

Lt. Wolfford described the scene as “quick and chaotic,” noting that it was remarkable only two people were shot.

Authorities believe the 61-year-old man was an innocent bystander. It is unclear whether the 26-year-old was involved in the fight.

Sheriff Gonzalez later confirmed that at least two individuals fired weapons during the altercation.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and questioning witnesses to gather more details about the shooting.
