A 61-year-old man lost his life in a tragic shooting at a McDonald’s in Katy, Texas, over the weekend.
He had gone inside to get Happy Meals for his grandchildren when gunfire erupted.
Jorge Arbaiza, an innocent bystander, was shot multiple times on Sunday evening during an altercation inside the fast-food restaurant.
Emergency responders airlifted him to a nearby hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
At the time of the shooting, Jorge’s wife, Teresa Arbaiza, waited in the parking lot with their two grandchildren.
She told local station KHOU that her husband had just stepped inside to grab food when chaos unfolded.
As Teresa saw people rushing out of the restaurant but did not see Jorge, she called him. That was when she heard his devastating last words.
“I am dying. I am going to die,” Teresa recalled her husband of 39 years telling her over the phone.
Gunfight Erupts Inside McDonald’s
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated on social media that a fight broke out between two groups inside the McDonald’s.
At some point, at least two individuals pulled out guns and started shooting.
The restaurant was crowded at the time, with several customers, including children, present.
A 26-year-old man was also shot but survived, Gonzalez added.
