LAS CRUCES, N.M. — A tragic mass shooting at Young Park in Las Cruces, New Mexico, left three people dead and 15 others injured on Friday night, AP reported.

Authorities arrested a 20-year-old man, Tomas Rivas, and two 17-year-old males on murder charges.

The shooting took place around 10 p.m. during an unauthorized car show that drew around 200 attendees.

According to Las Cruces police, a violent altercation led to gunfire, scattering 50 to 60 shell casings across the park.

Victims included nine males and six females aged 16 to 36. Andrew Madrid, 16, and Jason Gomez, 18, died at the scene, while Dominick Estrada, 19, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

Police Chief Jeremy Story confirmed that multiple shooters were involved.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and seeking witness statements.

Local hospitals treated the injured, with several victims transported to El Paso’s regional trauma center.

The Las Cruces Convention Center has opened for crisis counseling and support.

Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and ATF, are assisting in the investigation.

Officials acknowledge past illegal car shows at Young Park and admit police understaffing on the night of the incident.

Las Cruces, located 40 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border, now grapples with the aftermath of one of its deadliest shootings.

Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the police as the search for justice continues.
