HOUSTON – A Houston man accused of leaving his injured children at the scene of a violent crash has been arrested and is being held without bond, according to court records.

Terrance Carr, who was already out on bond for a prior DWI with a child passenger charge in February, now faces two counts of abandoning a child with imminent danger.

The incident occurred on March 25 when Carr, driving a Ford Expedition, crashed into a Chevrolet Avalanche near the 5300 block of Yale Street.

Witnesses reported the SUV was speeding at nearly 100 mph in a 35 mph zone, causing it to go airborne and land in a bayou.

Inside the vehicle were Carr, a woman, and four children, ages 8, 4, 3, and 7 months.

Two children suffered severe injuries—one required emergency abdominal surgery, while another sustained a collapsed lung.

According to witness statements, Carr managed to crawl out of the wreckage but ran away, leaving his injured children behind.

One witness claimed Carr smelled of alcohol and drugs and was heard saying, “I’m running” and “I’m wanted” before fleeing. Another said he called out, “Get my kids,” before disappearing.

Court records show that Carr’s February arrest was for driving intoxicated with the same children in the same Ford Expedition.

Authorities have since located and arrested Carr, who is now in the Harris County Jail without bond.

Houston Police Captain Ryan Watson commented on the case, stating: “I have no idea what was going through his mind at the time. I don’t know if there was another reason he felt the need to flee.”

While the injuries from the crash were serious, police believe all victims are expected to survive.

The occupants of the Chevrolet Avalanche remained at the scene, showed no signs of impairment, and cooperated with investigators.

Houston police are urging anyone with further information to come forward.
