An Austin man was arrested after he dragged a police officer 30 feet while trying to flee on his motorcycle, authorities confirmed.
Reckless Driving Leads to Police Response
Austin police responded late Friday night to a 911 call reporting reckless driving.
The caller described a large group of motorcyclists performing wheelies and obstructing traffic.
Upon arrival, officers found the group pulling into an elementary school parking lot.
As they attempted to locate the leader, they spotted Yannik Rohrer riding a motorcycle without a headlight or taillight.
When an officer approached Rohrer, he tried to evade detection by merging into the crowd.
Attempted Escape Turns Violent
A second officer then spotted Rohrer and attempted to detain him.
As the officer placed one hand on Rohrer’s back and the other on his wrist, Rohrer suddenly accelerated.
The officer was dragged approximately 30 feet at high speed before managing to pull Rohrer off the motorcycle and take him into custody.
Injuries and Charges Filed
The officer suffered an arm injury due to the incident and received medical treatment. Rohrer now faces multiple charges, including:
Evading detention in a vehicle
Unlawful restraint of a peace officer
Assault on a peace officer
Authorities are continuing to investigate the reckless driving incident, and additional charges may follow.
