HOUSTON, Texas — Houston police are searching for a suspect after an Uber driver was shot multiple times while driving with a passenger early Wednesday morning.

According to the Houston Police Department, the shooting occurred around 12:30 a.m. along Main Street. The driver, a man in his early 40s, was hit in the collarbone and leg but managed to drive himself to a nearby hospital.

The passenger in the vehicle told police he heard at least five gunshots. He suffered a minor thumb injury, possibly from shattered glass. After asking to be let out of the car, the driver continued to the emergency room.

“The other individual said he wasn’t sure what the noise was,” said HPD Lt. Willkens. “He thought the car was making a sound, then realized the glass was breaking and they were being shot at. He ducked down immediately.”

Officers are reviewing the scene for evidence, including any available video footage, but no suspect details have been released.

The passenger stayed near the scene and is being questioned by investigators. Police have not yet determined the driver’s destination or the source of the gunfire.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Houston Police Department.
