Staff Report
Street racing — both dangerous and illegal — led to the recent arrests of two individuals in Harris County.
Last Friday, a deputy from Constable Mark Herman’s Office observed two vehicles engaged in a high-speed race near Timber Forest Drive and Will Clayton Parkway. Acting swiftly, the deputy initiated a traffic stop.
The drivers, identified as Austin Smith and Colton Abshire, were taken into custody. Both admitted to participating in the race, according to an official statement from Constable Mark Herman’s Office.
This reckless behavior resulted in serious legal consequences. An official Facebook post from the constable’s office confirmed that “Austin Smith and Colton Abshire were arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Racing on a Public Roadway.” Their bonds were set at $100 by County Court 7.
These charges highlight the potential danger their actions posed to innocent residents, reinforcing the constable’s ongoing efforts to promote road safety.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about local crime, arrests, and traffic incidents by downloading the “C4 NOW” app or following Constable Mark Herman’s Office on Facebook.
Street racing remains a serious offense, carrying significant legal consequences and posing a direct threat to public safety — a fact this case once again makes clear.
