LAHORE–The Lahore Press Club and Crime Reporters Association have jointly announced a complete boycott of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Lahore, Faisal Kamran, demanding his immediate transfer.
The announcement was made during a joint meeting at the Lahore Press Club, where journalists strongly condemned the DIG’s.
It was decided that journalists would boycott all functions of the DIG and stage protest demonstrations outside the Punjab Assembly and the Chief Minister’s House. They added that the demonstrations would continue until the DIG is transferred.
Journalists also staged a protest demonstration against the DIG, chanting slogans against him.
Addressing the participants, Lahore Press Club President Arshad Ansari said that the DIG had used objectionable language against the journalist fraternity, which is intolerable.
He claimed that threats had allegedly been made by the DIG to journalists.
“The DIG and Lahore Police will be held responsible in case of any harm to any journalist,” he categorically stated.
General Secretary of the Crime Reporters Association, Mujahid Sheikh, said that his association would completely boycott the DIG and stand with the Lahore Press Club, come what may.
The session also adopted a unanimous resolution to cancel the Crime Reporters Association membership of Adnan Bhatti. He has also been banned from entering the Lahore Press Club.
Participants condemned Bhatti’s writing, terming it the mouthpiece of the police.
The Lahore Press Club reaffirmed its commitment to stand with journalists in defending press freedom.
Senior Vice President of the Press Club, Afzal Talib, Joint Secretary Imran Sheikh, Finance Secretary Salik Nawaz, and members of the governing body also attended the meeting.
The session was further addressed by crime reporters including Ahmed Faraz, Noman Sheikh, Babar Khan, Sheraz Nisar, Waseem Sabir, Attaullah, Sarfraz Khan, Hammad Aslam, and Malik Mushtaq, among others.
Those present at the meeting also included Ali Chaudhry, Khurram Pasha, Imran Shams, Riaz, Khurram Malik, Qaiser Iftikhar, Mudassar Hussain, Khurram Abbas, Jawad Shah, Usman Chaudhry, Nader Chaudhry, Ali Sahi, Ahmed Khokhar, Mian Rauf, Mirza Ramzan Baig, Faraz Nizam, Hassan Khalid, Riaz Bhatti, Umar Yaqoob, Asif Chaudhry, Waseem Riaz, Salman Qureshi, Fayaz Malik, Mirza Nadeem Baig, Ahmed Faraz, Ahmed Ali, Shahid Rizvi, Riaz Awan, Chaudhry Aslam, Aamir Rana, Shahroz, Shahzaib Bhatti, and Sibtain Ali, along with a large number of journalists.
