Houston authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred late last night, leaving a 41-year-old man dead.
The incident took place around 10:20 p.m. on the 5900 block of Hillcroft Avenue, according to a press release from the Houston Police Department (HPD).
Investigation and Witness Accounts
Officers from the HPD Homicide Division, including Sergeants K. Meek and A. Lopez, along with Detectives J. Diaz and N. Sharp, arrived at the scene after patrol officers responded to reports of gunfire.
A witness directed police to the victim, who had sustained gunshot wounds.
Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department transported him to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to witnesses, a single gunshot was heard first, followed by several more minutes later.
The victim was later found collapsed on the sidewalk near the shooting site.
Suspect Description and Search Efforts
Authorities have described the suspect as a dark-skinned Black male, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, wearing a gray hoodie and shorts.
Witnesses noted that he had shoulder-length braids or locks visible around the hoodie’s face opening.
The suspect was last seen fleeing north on the west side of Hillcroft Avenue.
