LAHORE – The Punjab government marked World Autism Day by distributing Eid gifts to 40,000 children with autism, reaffirming its commitment to their well-being.
In her World Autism Day message, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized that autistic children are not patients but special individuals.
She assured that the government is taking measures for their rehabilitation, education, and overall development.
The Punjab government plans to launch an employment program for special individuals and introduce the Rising Star Card for autistic children.
The first government autism school in Lahore is nearing completion, making it Pakistan’s first dedicated autism institution.
This facility will feature an autism diagnostic center, while 12 autism units and 27 autism schools in divisional public schools have already been established.
Additionally, the government is rolling out a packed food program for special children and enhancing security at special education centers with 3,450 CCTV cameras.
A 1162 helpline and a mobile app are now active to assist families of autistic children.
The Punjab CM reiterated her government’s commitment to supporting children with autism, ensuring their education and safety.
She also announced upgrades for the District Special Education Centre of Excellence and the installation of CCTV cameras in buses and schools to protect special schoolchildren.
