Kočani, North Macedonia – A devastating fire at the Pulse nightclub has left at least 59 people dead and over 100 injured.
The blaze erupted around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 16, according to Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski.
Authorities confirmed that sparks from pyrotechnics used during a concert triggered the fire. Local pop group ADN was performing at the time.
Many victims suffered severe burns and were transported to hospitals nationwide, including in the capital, Skopje.
Some event organizers were also among those seriously injured.
Minister Toshkovski vowed accountability, stating, “Everyone responsible will face consequences. Autopsies will be conducted to confirm identities.”
One suspect has been arrested, and several others detained. The authorities, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, are continuing their probe.
Reactions from Leaders
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski called it “a difficult and tragic day” and assured full government support. European Commissioner Marta Kos expressed condolences, mourning the loss of “too many young lives.”
This incident marks one of North Macedonia’s worst nightclub tragedies in recent years.
