New Era Hat Design Fail: MLB Caps Pulled Over Vulgar Text Mishap

Some of New Era’s newly released Major League Baseball caps have unintentionally become rare collectibles due to awkward design choices.

The issue arises from the placement of large team initials over their full names, creating unintended words.

Texas Rangers and Houston Astros Caps Pulled

The Texas Rangers cap featured a large “T” over “Texas,” which read as “Tetas,” the Spanish word for breasts. The cap was quickly removed from stores, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The Houston Astros hat also faced backlash as the “H” overlapped with the “T” in “Astros,” forming “Ashos.

Similarly, the Anaheim Angels cap displayed “Anaels” due to a misplaced “A.”

Collectors Rush to eBay for Retracted Caps

Before being pulled, some hats were sold, making them highly sought-after collectibles.

Listings on eBay show Rangers caps going for up to $800, while Astros and Angels hats have been sold for around $500 each.

Another Blunder from New Era

This mistake follows a 2023 design mishap where an Oakland Athletics cap unintentionally displayed a slang term for the backside due to overlapping logos.

New Era has yet to comment on the situation. However, for collectors, these hats have become unexpected treasures.
