LAHORE: In a distressing turn of events in Lahore, former renowned actress Nargis, whose real name is Ghazala, has levelled serious allegations against her husband, Inspector Majid Bashir.
According to reports, Nargis has accused Bashir of subjecting her to severe physical abuse, prompting her to file a formal complaint with the police.
The case has been registered at the Defence C Police Station under Nargis’s name, with charges including assault and threats to her life at gunpoint.
The complaint details a harrowing incident in which Bashir allegedly attempted to forcibly acquire property documents, cash, and jewelry from Nargis while threatening her with a firearm.
Following the filing of the complaint, law enforcement officials have swiftly formed teams to locate and apprehend the accused, Majid Bashir.
The situation escalated when Nargis’s brother, Khurram Bhatti, reported the incident to the police, highlighting the urgency of the matter.
It is noteworthy that Nargis had recently married Inspector Majid Bashir and had stepped away from her acting career to run a beauty salon.
This shocking revelation of domestic violence has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of women in similar situations.
Support from Authorities
In response to this alarming incident, Hina Pervaiz Butt, Chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority, met with Nargis to offer her support.
Butt assured Nargis that she would receive protection and legal assistance throughout this challenging time.
She emphasized that domestic violence is a serious criminal offense and that the authority is committed to ensuring justice for victims.
Butt stated, “This is not a trivial matter; we will ensure that the perpetrator faces consequences for his actions.” She further reiterated that the Women Protection Authority will not compromise on issues of violence against women.
“Every woman deserves complete justice and protection; it is our top priority,” she added.
According to Butt, the Chief Minister has made it clear that violence against women is a red line for the government. She assured that all individuals involved in this case will be held accountable and brought to justice.
The government’s policies regarding domestic violence are stringent, reflecting their commitment to protecting women’s rights and ensuring their safety.
Shahid Ahmed, a human rights activist, said that this case serves as a stark reminder of the pervasive issue of domestic violence faced by many women.
