Man Drives Car Into River in East Harris County, Dies at Scene

A tragic incident occurred in East Harris County when a man, estimated to be between 50 and 60 years old, lost his life after driving his car into a river, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed.

According to KHOU, authorities received the report early this morning near 7 1/2 Street, close to the River Glenn community by the San Jacinto River.

Deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene in the 11900 block of 7 1/2 Street, where they found the man’s vehicle submerged. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office shared details of the response on X, stating:

“@HCSOTexas deputies responded to the 11900 blk of 7 1/2 Street in East Harris County.

A male reportedly drove his vehicle into the river.

Upon arrival, deputies determined that the male (between 50-60 yrs) did drive into the river and was pronounced deceased on-scene.”

At this time, it remains unclear why the man drove into the river. Authorities have not confirmed if it was an accident, an intentional act, or the result of a medical emergency. KHOU reports that the case is still under investigation.
