Authorities have made a second arrest in connection with the fatal shooting that took place on March 18 at an apartment complex located in the 7500 block of Cook Road.
Seventeen-year-old Christopher Portillo Luna has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following his arrest on March 27, according to a statement from the City of Houston.
The Houston Police Department Homicide Division reported that officers responding to a person-down call discovered 41-year-old Marcos Cotto Torres with a fatal gunshot wound.
Another man was also found injured at the scene and was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
As the investigation progressed, witnesses identified Fernando Amaya, 17, as a suspect in the attack.
He has been charged with murder and multiple counts of aggravated assault, accused of being directly involved in Torres’ death.
Later that same day, Amaya was located at a relative’s home, where he was taken into custody.
After reviewing the evidence, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office officially filed charges against him.
Further investigation led to the identification of Luna as the second suspect.
Law enforcement agencies, including the Westside Patrol Gang Unit and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, worked together to track and arrest him.
According to City of Houston officials, both Luna and Amaya were linked to a white SUV seen entering and exiting the crime scene.
Physical evidence gathered further connected them to the shooting, leading to Luna’s formal arrest and charges.
