AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized nearly $7 million worth of cocaine in Hidalgo County last week.

According to a DPS release, special agents and troopers responded to a call from the Pharr Port of Entry on March 6. U.S. Customs and Border Protection had flagged an international semitruck suspected of smuggling drugs.

During a secondary inspection, agents found 150 plastic-wrapped bundles of cocaine hidden in the truck’s cargo area.

The seized cocaine weighed over 500 pounds, with an estimated street value of $6.8 million.

Authorities identified the truck driver as 33-year-old Mario Robledo from Mexico.

He was arrested and charged with manufacturing and delivering a controlled substance.

Robledo was booked into the Hidalgo County Jail.
