A Texas man accused of driving drunk and killing four family members in a golf cart crash has pleaded guilty before his trial began.

Miguel Espinoza, 47, was scheduled to face a jury on Tuesday but admitted guilt before opening statements.

The tragic incident occurred in August 2022, when Espinoza, allegedly intoxicated, crashed into a golf cart near Avenue R and 33rd Street in Galveston.

Police identified the victims as 49-year-old Felipe Bentancur, 25-year-old Destiny Uvalle, 14-year-old Brailyn Cantu, and 4-year-old Kaisyn Bentancur.

Espinoza was charged with five felonies, including involuntary manslaughter with a vehicle.

Following the crash, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission agents arrested Gil Garcia, a bartender accused of overserving Espinoza at a bar before the incident.
