FAISALABAD: A man was gunned down by his two rivals outside the district courts, in front of the city police officer’s office, in Faisalabad on Thursday.

Reports said that Shabir Hussain, who was booked in a case registered with the Millat Town Police Station, was on his way to the district courts when he was ambushed by his two rivals—Shahzeb and Qasim. The attackers opened fire on him near the district courts’ gate.

A police spokesperson said that one of the accused, identified as Shahzeb, was caught by the policemen deployed at the district courts’ gate. A weapon was also recovered from his possession.

He added that the other accused managed to escape from the scene, and teams have been formed to arrest him. The injured man was shifted to Allied Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Quoting the city police officer, he said that justice would be served as the investigation into the matter has begun.

Mohammed Ahmed, a lawyer, talking to GL News, said that this is a gruesome incident in which a litigant was killed while on his way to attend his case proceedings. He added that the incident highlights the insufficiency of police presence inside and outside the district courts.

He noted that the district courts are located near the city police officer and deputy commissioner offices, both of which require high security measures. He observed that insufficient policemen have been deployed near the district courts.

This situation demands effective police patrolling on this road to ensure the safety of litigants.

A police officer requesting anonymity told GL News that it’s a wrong perception that the police are not efficient in protecting litigants. He said that one could check that sufficient policemen have been deployed in and around the district courts to protect litigants, lawyers, and visitors as well.

He said one cannot predict if someone is going to attack their rival, and the same happened in this case. The policemen were not aware that the two criminals were going to attack their rival. He explained that scores of people visit the district courts daily, and policemen are efficiently performing their duties and protecting the lives and property of the masses.

He said that such incidents can’t be easily prevented because it’s impossible to get any intelligence before they happen.
