Staff Report

LAHORE–Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has dismissed allegations by Nadeem Afzal Chan as “false propaganda,” warning that no one will be allowed to spread baseless narratives about Punjab or politicize flood victims’ issues.

She has strongly responded to allegations by Nadeem Afzal Chan on X (formerly Twitter), saying that no one will be allowed to spread baseless and misleading narratives about Punjab.

Azma Bukhari said, “Mr. Chan, you were a decent person, but lately it seems either you are under mental stress or you are deliberately running fake propaganda about Punjab. I had already shared the facts regarding the loan issue with the media on August 26. Spreading this false propaganda again falls under the PECA Act.”

She added that under the Punjab Defamation Bill, Nadeem Afzal Chan will have to prove this false news in court. She emphasized that the Punjab government will continue to play its role at every forum to inform the public with truth and facts.

Speaking further, Bukhari said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had strongly defended Punjab’s case in front of the entire nation yesterday. She stressed that no one would be allowed to politicize issues related to Punjab and the flood victims.

No Politics on Flood Victims

She remarked, “Those who cannot practically help the flood-affected people should also refrain from making unnecessary statements. The people of Punjab have given Maryam Nawaz their mandate, and she not only respects this mandate but also knows how to protect Punjab.”

Azma Bukhari urged that there are plenty of other political topics to discuss, and politics should not be carried out in the name of flood victims.

She said those genuinely working for the victims should be allowed to continue their efforts, while Maryam Nawaz and her team always present their performance directly to the public.

“Opponents, on the other hand, only try to get into the news through point-scoring. Those who have no performance of their own criticize the welfare work of others,” she said.

Bukhari added that Maryam Nawaz has set a new example of merit, good governance, and transparency in Punjab, which is being widely appreciated by the public.
