A tragic incident unfolded earlier this week in Arlington as authorities launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a 63-year-old woman.
According to the Arlington Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex on Whisper Meadow Lane late Monday night, just before midnight.
Upon arrival, they found the woman unresponsive in the complex’s breezeway.
She was taken to a nearby hospital, but couldn’t survive.
Among the witnesses was a 37-year-old man who reported hearing cries for help.
He armed himself and fired a warning shot at the suspect, causing the assailant to flee on foot.
Authorities later identified 23-year-old Jacob Arriaga Guerrero as a suspect in the case.
His ankle monitor, tracked by the Tarrant County Community Supervision and Corrections Department, registered a tampering alert around the time of the crime.
Additionally, data from Tarrant County placed Guerrero at the scene during the attack.
Guerrero has since been taken into custody as the investigation continues.
