Toyota is more than happy with the GR Yaris. Not only is the street model a success and has already become a cult model, its World Rally Championship (WRC) version is also very familiar with victory.
Now, the brand honors its champions with the Toyota GR Yaris Ogier Edition and Rovanperä Edition .
These are two very limited special editions that share the same base, but then have different characters.
Starting with the common elements, the first is the fact that they share an engine, the 1.6 three-cylinder block and turbocharger already seen in the Toyota GR Yaris , which develops 280 HP of power and 390 Nm of maximum torque, combined with a gearbox. six-speed intelligent manual transmission (6iMT).
The second is that the “Ground” and “Asphalt” modes of the conventional GR Yaris have been replaced by settings reprogrammed to reflect the personal preferences of the driver who inspires each edition.
At the design level, it is painted in the special Matt Stealth gray color, it shows off the French flag both in the radiator area and on the 18-inch BBS alloy wheels, it has WRC commemorative stickers on the front wings, brake calipers and CFRP spoiler are painted in blue, there are TOYOTA GAZOO Racing decals and an edition logo.
In the cabin it has a plaque commemorating the WRC victory, a blue, white and red stripe on the steering wheel, and contrasting white stitching is present on the steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake.
In addition, it has two new 4×4 control modes: Morizo and Seb . The first has been developed by Akio Toyoda and is calibrated “to help the driver achieve consistent race times when accelerating and braking.” The second, developed by Ogier, directs the torque to the rear axle so that the rear of the vehicle can be opened relatively easily.
Its design is more striking since the body sports an exclusive three-tone paint. In addition, the front wings feature WRC victory stickers, a variable CFRP rear spoiler, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing stickers on the doors and rear bumper, the Rovanperä Edition emblem on the tailgate and the same ones. 18 inch wheels.
In the interior, we have once again chosen to pay homage to the pilot’s nationality, in this case Finnish, which is why the finishes and upholstery feature blue and white tones. In addition, there is also the corresponding special plaque commemorating TGR’s victory in the WRC.
Its mechanical peculiarity is the Kalle driving mode , in which a constant speed rear differential is applied, which according to the company, means that “the rear of the vehicle can open well when cornering and the front can push towards the front with acceleration when leaving.”
Toyota has announced both editions will be manufactured in “strictly limited” volumes, but it will not be until later when national distributors will announce details regarding orders and sales in their respective markets.
