Charges have been filed against 17-year-old Fernando Amaya in connection with a fatal shooting early Tuesday morning at 7500 Cook Road.

He faces charges of murder, aggravated assault of a family member, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. A second suspect remains unidentified and is still at large.

The victim, a 41-year-old man, has not yet been officially identified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Authorities have not disclosed the relationship between Amaya and the victim.

According to Houston Police Department (HPD) Homicide Division detectives, officers responded to a call at an apartment complex where they found one man with a gunshot wound outside and another unresponsive inside.

Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the man inside dead, while the injured individual was taken to a hospital.

Witness statements and investigative findings led police to identify Amaya as a suspect. Evidence revealed that Amaya and the unidentified accomplice arrived and fled the scene in a white full-size SUV.

Later that morning, Amaya was arrested at a family member’s home. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office then filed formal charges against him.

Investigators are still searching for the second suspect and the getaway vehicle. Anyone with information is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
