Shaquille O’Neal and Draymond Green have reportedly fallen victim to a scam linked to known Crips gang leader Eugene “Big U” Henley.
According to the Los Angeles Times, federal authorities are investigating Henley for wire fraud and other crimes after he allegedly embezzled over $100,000 in donations meant for charity.
O’Neal and Green each contributed $20,000 to Henley’s non-profit, Developing Options, but much of the money was reportedly misused.
Investigators claim Henley pocketed Green’s entire donation in 2019 and took most of O’Neal’s contribution, which was intended for Developing Options and the Crenshaw Rams youth sports team.
Authorities have also accused the 58-year-old Henley of murder, kidnapping, robbery, extortion, and fraud.
U.S. Attorney Joseph T. McNally stated, “(Henley) has presented himself as a community leader and music industry entrepreneur, but the facts show a different picture—one of a murderer, a thief, a liar, and a cheat.”
Henley surrendered to authorities shortly after the press conference announcing the charges.
O’Neal and Green, both employed by TNT, continue their professional roles despite the controversy. O’Neal, a 15-time NBA All-Star, is a host on Inside the NBA, while Green makes guest appearances when not playing for the Golden State Warriors.
