Scout 4×4: Everything we know about VW Off-Road vehicle that threatens Mercedes G-class. Volkswagen will launch ‘Scout 4×4,’ an SUV, and a pick-up to get closer to the US market. Both concept cars will be unveiled this summer of 2024.

About a month ago, Volkswagen announced its plans to establish itself on the American continent, taking into account that it has strengthened its sales in China and Europe, but the United States still resists it. This is why it has designed an all-terrain vehicle, the Scout.
It is an electric SUV that will begin production in 2026 at the new factory that Volkswagen will open in South Carolina (United States). The model that will be produced in the factory has two aspects: both an SUV and a pick-up. And, although there are still two years until their launch, Scout intends to present the two cars in the coming months.
Scout 4×4: The New Rival of the Mercedes G Class
Although the vehicle has not yet been presented as such, it is true that the German firm has released teasers of both models, both the SUV and the pick-up, in which the new Volkswagen motto is shown: ‘The world needs more Scouts.’
In the following video, you can see how the German firm has used the motto we mentioned to appeal to practically all people since, as they say, ‘There is a Scout in all of us.’
However, nothing is indicated about what the new model will look like, as has been seen in some sketches that Volkswagen has advanced. At the end of the video, a black screen is shown, and letters stating that the cars will be launched next summer of 2024 (the exact date is unknown).
The introduction of this new company is part of Volkswagen New Auto’s strategy, which aims to “take advantage of the transformation towards electric vehicles in the region through a broad product portfolio and the creation of a new company aimed at entering the sector of fully electric pick-ups.”
The German manufacturer has announced the investment of up to 492 million euros for the development of new Scout vehicles, adapted mainly to the American market. What is known so far is that these are two 100% electric models (SUV and pick-up), with a very square aesthetic. In short, with the proportions of an authentic 4×4.
Your Contract with Magna Steyr
During the last few months, there has been talk about the possible alliance between Volkswagen and Magna Steyr, one of the large component suppliers in Europe for the German firm. Finally, it has become official. Both brands have signed a contract of 450 million euros that Volkswagen will pay to Magna for the development and production of the Scouts.
Likewise, the Magna company, known for manufacturing the Mercedes G-Class all-terrain vehicle, will also be in charge of testing the prototypes, as well as the manufacturing of the new American plant, which will be located in Columbia, South Carolina. Now, even the Scout could become a direct competitor to the G-Class.
The Mechanics of the Volkswagen Scout Are Still Unknown
At the moment, data about its mechanics are unknown, especially considering that hardly any images have been seen of both models. However, it is estimated that its power is around 300 HP for the access variant, while the more ‘sporty’ alternative would reach 500 HP.
On the other hand, in terms of its autonomy, it would be close to 650 km. Likewise, in an interview conducted by TechCrunch with Scott Keogh, CEO of Scout, he confirmed that the SUV will have a starting price of approximately $40,000.
For its part, it should be noted that, due to the type of campaign that Volkswagen has carried out, that is, focused mainly on the American market, these models are not marketed in Europe. Of course, all this is data that Volkswagen will have to consolidate in the following months.
Finally, mention that Scout has already registered several names that can give a general idea of what we can expect in a few months. Among them, the following stand out: Scout 80, Scout 800, Scout II, Terra, Traveler, Super Scout, Aristocraft, Baler, Forma, Harrow, Rallye, Scout Spirit, Sno-Star, Terrastar, Trailstar and more.
