FAISALABAD (Web Desk): The Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PHMA) has urged the Ministry of Commerce to let the Knitwear sector have a seat at the table in the newly formed committee reviewing the Export Facilitation Scheme (EFS).
Despite being the largest export earner, the Knitwear sector has been entirely excluded from representation in this important committee.
PHMA’s Letter to the Prime Minister
In a letter to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, PHMA Senior Vice Chairman Hazar Khan raised concerns about the composition of the EFS Review Committee, pointing out that PHMA, as the foremost trade organization representing the hosiery and knitwear industry, has not been included. The Association plays a vital role in fostering economic growth, generating employment, and supporting national self-reliance.
Knitwear’s Potential Contribution to Economic Growth
Hazar Khan emphasized that the textile sector, particularly the knitwear industry, could significantly contribute to the country’s export goals and economic growth if it is represented on the committee. He stressed that the sector’s potential is immense, and with proper support, it could help steer the country out of its current crises by boosting foreign exchange and providing widespread employment.
Knitwear Sector’s Resilience and Growth Potential
Khan further pointed out that, despite facing numerous challenges, the knitwear sector has outperformed other export sectors, demonstrating its resilience and growth potential. He urged the government to reconsider the composition of the Review Committee and ensure that PHMA is included as a key representative.
PHMA’s Vital Contributions and Urgent Call for Action
The PHMA leadership also highlighted the sector’s vital contributions as a major taxpayer, the largest employment provider in the textile industry, and a key source of foreign exchange earnings. They called for prompt government action to include PHMA in the committee reviewing the Export Facilitation Scheme.
