Pakistan’s February Inflation Hits 9-Year Low

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate reached a 9-year low of 1.5% year-on-year in February.

However, people said that the March CPI will reflect the actual situation, as profiteers will try to exploit customers during Ramadan.

PBS Reports February CPI Data

The statistics issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) indicated that CPI inflation stood at 1.5% on a year-on-year basis in February 2025. The figure was 2.4% in the previous month and 23.1% in February 2024.

Food Price Increases Despite Overall Drop

However, prices of some food items have registered a rise. The items included: Pulse moong (32.65%), besan (28.97%), pulse gram (25.40%), potatoes (22.88%), fresh fruits (21.55%), butter (21.12%), honey (20.77%), milk powder (20.58%), and meat (18.59%).

Public Speaks Out on Inflation Impact

Speaking to Grand Lines News, people said that unbridled inflation has made their lives miserable. They said they are not aware of the Consumer Price Index. They only know the prices remained uncontrolled for months; however, now the situation is improving.

Ramadan Price Concerns Rise Among Citizens

They said that the month of Ramadan has started, it will be a difficult task for the government to maintain prices. They said it has been observed in the past that hoarders and profiteers exploited every situation and fleeced consumers with impunity.

Government Efforts to Monitor Markets

We have seen on news channels that the provincial administration is trying its best to monitor the retailers and wholesalers and ensure availability of the food items at controlled rates. We will see whether the administration is able to keep an eye on the unscrupulous elements, they said.

Demands for Strict Action Against Profiteering

They said the current situation demands comprehensive measures with strict action against those involved in hoarding and profiteering. They said inflation has strained the finances of the public.
