LAHORE – Usman is running from pillar to post to get his National Identity Card renewed as he is not aware of the latest changes made by the National Database Registration Authority (Nadra).
The National Database Registration Authority (Nadra), an authority having powers to renew or issue computerized National Identity Cards, asked the citizens to get their cards renewed even before their expiration date.
For this purpose, the aspirants have to visit any nearby office of the National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) or they should log on the PAK ID app. The PAK ID app allows citizens to apply for card renewal from anywhere.
Usman said being an illiterate he is not aware of any changes made by the NADRA recently.
“I have contacted multiple people with a request to share the easiest way for him to renew his card.”
He said one has to wait for hours at the NADRA offices to get new or old cards. He said without a national identity card, one can not avail multiple facilities and services being offered by both private and public departments.
Elaborating his claim, Usman said without CNIC you could not get a new sim card and access banking services. Even people with expired ID cards can not apply for a private job. Similarly, he said the CNIC is mandatory to get a new cellular connection, passport, national tax number, driving, firearms or any sort of licence to be issued by the government.
Smart ID Card Renewal Fee in June 2024
As of June 2024, the National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) has maintained the fee structure for renewing the Smart National Identity Card (SNIC). Citizens can get their renewed Smart NIC by paying a standard fee of Rs750. Similarly no change has been made for the urgent Smart NIC and it can be obtained against a fee of Rs1,500. To get the executive services, then people have to pay a Rs 2,500 fee for renewal of their cards. These fees do not include delivery charges.
The National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) issues CNIC with a validity period of ten years. The case of any citizen for the normal/urgent/executive category will begin following approval.
