Gotion High-Tech revolutionizes electric car batteries

Chinese manufacturer Gotion High-Tech, in partnership with the Volkswagen Group, announces a major breakthrough in the automotive industry with the mass production of a revolutionary new battery pack planned for 2024.

These batteries promise an exceptional range of 1,000 km on a single charge, thus marking a major step in the evolution of electric vehicles, one of the most important faults of which remains autonomy.

The new battery cell, called Astroinno L600 LMFP, is made of manganese, offering the ability to achieve 4,000 full cycles at room temperature and more than 1,500 fast charge cycles in just 18 minutes.

This technological leap represents a significant advance in the durability of electric batteries, as Gotion High-Tech claims that these batteries could theoretically last two million kilometers, equivalent to around 130 years of average driving.

By adopting double-sided liquid cooling technology and an optimized design approach, the Astroinno battery has successfully reduced the number of structural parts by 45% and its weight by 32%.

This minimalist electrical design also made it possible to shorten the length of the battery’s electrical harness, marking a step forward in both performance and lightness.

In 2024, the electric car with 1000 km of autonomy will arrive and Elon Musk has nothing to do with it.

The manufacturer also overcame technical obstacles related to manganese dissolution at high temperatures, low conductivity and low packing density by using innovative granulation technologies and new electrolyte additives.

“Astroinno L600 LMFP battery cell has passed all safety tests,” said Dr. Cheng Qian, CEO of Gotion High-Tech International Business Unit.

Towards a revolution in electric and shared transport

Beyond the impressive battery performance, the evolution towards a range of 1,000 km paves the way for a major transformation in the transport sector.

Studies indicate that the combination of battery longevity and range could significantly reduce transportation costs, potentially spurring a mass transition to electric cars and ride-sharing.

In this context, technology researcher Tony Seba predicts a radical change in the automotive landscape.

“The day we have Level 4 autonomous technology ready and approved by regulators, when it converges with electric and on-demand transportation, we will have what we call transportation as a service.”

According to Tony Seba’s predictions, the convergence of autonomous transportation services and long-range electric vehicles could reduce the global automobile market by 75% by 2030.

This vision would have a potentially revolutionary impact, marking a crucial step towards more sustainable and efficient mobility.
