Staff Report

HOUSTON, Texas — Two Houston Police Department officers are fortunate to have avoided serious injuries after a crash early Sunday morning, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on the IH-610 North Loop near Ella Boulevard. The two officers from the North Shepard Division were responding to a call to assist a fellow officer when the accident happened.

Officials reported that as the officers exited the feeder road on IH-610, they attempted to make a U-turn but miscalculated, causing their vehicle to collide with a pillar.

Initially, there were concerns that one of the officers had sustained multiple broken bones. However, medical evaluations, including X-rays, revealed no fractures.

Lieutenant JP Horelica of the Houston Police Department shared that both officers — a man and a woman — were just 20 days away from marking their first anniversary with the department.

Following the crash, the officers were transported to Houston-area hospitals, where they received treatment for their injuries.

According to HPD, the officers suffered only severe sprains and are expected to recover.
