HOUSTON, Texas – Authorities are searching for a fugitive who cut off his ankle monitor and vanished before the final stages of his murder trial.
Christopher David Hernandez, who was charged with murder in August 2022, was sentenced to life in prison in absentia after fleeing during his trial.
The case dates back to an incident in a store parking lot at 9460 West Sam Houston Parkway South.
Reports state that Hernandez engaged in a heated dispute over a parking spot, which escalated as the men walked toward the store.
During the altercation, Hernandez pulled out a firearm and shot the victim multiple times. The wounded man was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities arrested Hernandez, and he was later released on bond with an ankle monitor. However, during his murder trial, he removed the device and failed to appear for closing arguments on March 26.
Despite his absence, the jury convicted him and sentenced him to life behind bars.
Law enforcement agencies are now actively searching for Hernandez. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact authorities.
