Daniel Douglas, 22, who briefly escaped from Harris County Jail in December 2024, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for a 2022 aggravated kidnapping case.
On December 4, 2024, Douglas fled the jail through an open sally port while being escorted by Baytown police officers.
He remained on the run for three hours before authorities found him hiding in a dumpster just 350 yards from the jail entrance.
Douglas was initially arrested in 2022 for kidnapping his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint from her workplace and forcing her to drive to a hotel in Austin.
He pleaded guilty in 2023 and was granted deferred adjudication, meaning he would avoid prison unless he committed another offense.
On the day of his escape, Douglas had been arrested again, this time for allegedly stabbing another ex-girlfriend in the head.
This new charge led prosecutors to revoke his probation, resulting in his sentencing for the earlier kidnapping case.
As part of a plea agreement, the escape and assault charges were dismissed after his conviction.
Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of public safety in handling violent offenders.
Douglas will now serve his 40-year sentence in a Texas state prison.
