MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. — Actor Haley Joel Osment, best known for his childhood role in The Sixth Sense, is facing legal trouble once again.
The 37-year-old has been officially charged with public intoxication and possession of cocaine following an incident earlier this month at a popular Northern California ski destination.
The Mono County District Attorney’s Office announced the misdemeanor charges on Thursday.
According to District Attorney David Anderson, Osment was arrested on April 8 at Mammoth Mountain ski resort after officers responded to reports of a disturbance.
While details of the arrest remain limited, the charges suggest a serious lapse in judgment.
Osment, who received an Academy Award nomination at just 11 years old, has been scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on July 7.
Efforts to reach Osment’s representative for comment were unsuccessful as of Thursday evening.
Osment shot to fame in 1999 alongside Bruce Willis in M. Night Shyamalan’s psychological thriller The Sixth Sense, a performance that earned him critical acclaim and lasting recognition.
He followed that with a lead role in Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi drama A.I. Artificial Intelligence and has since built a steady career in voice acting and television, with roles in The Kominsky Method and What We Do in the Shadows.
The actor is also among the many who lost their homes in January’s devastating Eaton Fire in the Altadena area, near Los Angeles.
This recent arrest is not Osment’s first brush with the law.
Back in 2006, he was charged with driving under the influence and marijuana possession after crashing his car into a mailbox in the Los Angeles area, resulting in a broken rib.
While fans of the former child star continue to follow his career, this latest incident has once again brought Osment into the public spotlight—for reasons far from the silver screen.
