GALVESTON, Texas – Authorities raided three smoke shops in Galveston on Thursday, accusing them of operating as fronts for distributing illegal substances, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.
During the raids, officials seized $1.6 million in assets and arrested five people linked to the alleged illegal activities.
However, authorities have not disclosed the specific substances involved.
The investigation into the Hazy Daze smoke shops lasted six months, involving surveillance, undercover operations, and interviews.
Following the findings, law enforcement executed search warrants at the shop locations.
Shlomi Wolraich, the owner of Hazy Daze, faces charges of money laundering and engaging in organized criminal activity. He is currently held without bond.
Two other individuals were charged with engaging in organized crime, with their bonds set at $100,000 each.
Another suspect was charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon, while a fifth individual faces charges for possessing illegal substances.
The sheriff’s office confirmed the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
The raids were conducted with assistance from multiple agencies, including the League City Police Department, Dickinson Police Department, Texas City Police Department, and the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office.
