FAISALABAD: Sandal Bar police claimed to have arrested the prime suspect in the incident of gang-rape of a Christian woman
The suspect, identified as Ali Sher, was nominated by the victim’s husband, Adnan Masih.
Addressing a press conference, SP Iqbal Town, Abid Zafar, said that Regional Police Officer Zeeshan Asghar and City Police Officer Bilal Umer had instructed the local police to leave no stone unturned in tracking down the criminals.
He said that police burned the midnight oil to crack the case and managed to nab the prime suspect, Ali Sher, within 24 hours of the incident.
He further claimed that the accused had spilled the beans about the crime and named his accomplices.
The accused covered the victim’s face with a sheet to prevent identification. He said that one of the accused asked another, ‘Rana, turn off the motorcycle light.
He said that during the investigation, it came to light that Ali Sher, also known as Rana, was widely recognized by that name in the area where the gruesome incident occurred.
Further investigation revealed that Faisal and Umer Hayyat are co-accused in the case. Faisal already has a rap sheet filled with robbery charges.
He said the victim has undergone a medical examination, and other crucial evidence, including marks on her clothes, has been sent for forensic analysis.
On Wednesday night, Adnan Masih, along with his wife, was on their way home from Jhang Road when two armed robbers intercepted them near the Motorway Bridge, close to Chak 62-JB, Channan.
Reports said that Adnan submitted an application to the police claiming that he and his wife, along with Asif Masih and Sattar Masih, were out gathering information and were near Chak 62-JB, Channan, when Ali Sher sped past them on a motorcycle.
Recognizing him, we followed the trail and traced him to his home. He initially came clean and assured us he would spill the beans about his co-accused. However, he has now gone back on his word.
Adnan requested the police to name him in the gang-rape case.
SP Iqbal Town said that raids are being conducted to arrest the remaining accused, and every trick in the book is being employed.
