FAISALABAD: A man was gunned down and his mother sustained injuries when rivals opened fire on them within the district court premises on Thursday.
The police report said that Shehbaz Ahmed, 28, of Millat Road, along with four others, was on way back to the judicial lock up after attending a court proceedings.
As Ahmed reached the civil court corridor, unidentified assailants opened fire. The injured breathed his last on the way to the hospital. Salma Perveen, mother of Ahmed, also sustained a bullet wound to her thigh and was shifted to the Allied hospital, where her condition was pronounced stable.
Ahmed had been booked in a case registered with the Sargodha Road police under section 324 last year.
Reaction and Response
On being informed of the incident scores of lawyers, litigants, and others flocked to the scene. However, the criminals vanished into thin air despite heavy police presence.
Talking to Grandlines News, lawyers expressed their frustration over the ongoing security issues at the district courts. They said that they had repeatedly requested the police to review their strategy regarding the security plan of the district courts.
The lawyers emphasized that without reviewing the security plan, firing incidents in and around the district courts would continue to spiral out of control.
They noted that firing incidents inside the court premises have become very common, highlighting the failure of the police officers.
Recent Security Concerns
A couple of days ago, another litigant was also gunned down within the district court premises, adding to the mounting concerns.
A police spokesman said that a team has been formed to arrest the criminals responsible for Ahmed’s death and his mother’s injury.
He said that following the incident police immediately reached the spot and started their investigation.
