A Shreveport man has been sentenced to more than 21 years in federal prison for drug trafficking in the Eastern District of Texas, Acting U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin Jr. announced.

Darren Tremaine Jackson, 41, was convicted in March 2024 for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge J. Campbell Barker sentenced him to 260 months in federal prison.

According to court records, Jackson and his co-defendant, Gary Wayne Sepulvado, were stopped for a traffic violation in Smith County on February 13, 2020. Officers detected the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, prompting a search.

They discovered 1 kilogram of methamphetamine inside the car.

Sepulvado pleaded guilty to related charges on November 15, 2023, and is awaiting his sentencing.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Smith County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ryan Locker and Dustin Farahnak handled the prosecution.
