LA PORTE, Texas – A physical education teacher from the La Porte Independent School District has been accused of possessing child pornography.
Kody Smith, 36, who is currently not in jail, is facing three charges related to child pornography. Authorities claim they discovered multiple files of illegal material in his possession.
According to court records, Smith downloaded over 70 images and videos of child exploitation material starting from 2023.
When police searched Smith’s home, they seized two phones and two laptops. Court documents describe some of the files found on these devices as the most “serious” among the 77 total files.
During a conversation with officers, Smith reportedly admitted to downloading child pornography for nearly three years. He allegedly used both his personal email and different KIK user IDs to do so.
Smith, a father of three, also works as a gym teacher at Bayshore Elementary School. KPRC 2 has contacted the La Porte Independent School District for a statement regarding the charges against Smith.
