EL PASO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Ysleta international crossing intercepted a smuggling attempt involving a U.S. citizen concealing methamphetamine on his body.
The seizure took place early Sunday morning, March 30, officials confirmed.
CBP Ysleta Port Director Arnie Gomez praised the vigilance of officers, stating, “The keen observational skills of a CBP officer resulted in this seizure being made.
Body carriers pose a challenge, but our expertise, canine support, and advanced technology help us detect and stop these smuggling attempts.”
The suspect, a 26-year-old man, entered the pedestrian lane from Mexico at approximately 4 a.m.
A CBP officer, noticing suspicious behavior, referred him for a secondary inspection.
During the search, a CBP narcotics-detection dog signaled the presence of drugs, prompting officers to conduct a physical examination.
Authorities discovered two packages concealed between the man’s buttocks.
Lab testing confirmed the packages contained 0.32 pounds of methamphetamine.
CBP officers arrested the suspect and transferred him to Homeland Security Investigations for further processing.
He now faces charges of importing a controlled substance.
